To
The
Postmaster General,

City Region,

Sir,
Sub: Request for addressing the problems faced on
detailed sorting of
huge volumes of mails received from bulk mailers at
the closing hours
at Chennai GPO – Reg.
…..
This is regarding the
sorting of the franked articles
given by some of the bulk mailers, who has got the license to frank for the
articles on the daily basis at Chennai GPO.
Due to the recent developments in the redesigned sorting pattern
ordered, the franked articles have to be
sorted out in detailed, almost up to a
category of eighty nine types and the
same has to
be labelled and bundled in all the categories and then it has to be bagged and
sent to the respective office.
But
earlier, the franked articles which have been received from the bulk mailers
will be sorted according to circles
wise, town delivery and the north side and it will be bagged and sent to the
respective places. Also, in this connection
it is our duty to bring to your
kind notice that, one of the bulk
mailers (jesus calls) who gives bulk of
franked articles to Chennai GPO on daily
basis, are in the habit of tendering
the mails at very late hour, in the evening ( in and around 4.30pm
and 15000 articles on a average). It is
a known fact that at the closing hours,
the delivery branch is facing lot of difficulties in pre-sorting of various bulk mails including this, and it
is a herculean task to close and send
them out. Also resulting in receipt of
more and more complaints from RMS units .
Even sufficient staffing is not available to handle with at the closing hours. This matter was brought to the
notice of the Chennai GPO administration
on various occasions by the Branch Union
, and requests were made to persuade
with the bulk mailers and nothing
yielded in this matter.
Also the franked bulk articles are tendered without pre- sorting, though
they are enjoying the rebate prescribed for that purpose. This was
also brought to the notice of the
Chennai GPO administration by the staff as well as by the Branch unions, but with no results.
Hence our Circle Union requests
the PMG, CCR to intervene in this matter
immediately , so as to restore the
original sorting pattern, besides taking
suitable action to mend the bulk mailers to abide by the conditions as laid down in this subject, for
availing the prescribed rebates.
With regards,
(J.
RAMAMURTHY)
CIRCLE
SECRETARY.
