Sub: Alarming death knell issued on the Postal services by the low rung officers by closing down the P.Os. abruptly in large number against the Secretary Posts’ decision without assigning any reason- Vellore Collectorate PO now in the row- Request your Personal intervention to save the services.

You may well aware that more than hundreds of P.O.s are closed down without assigning any reason unmindfully in the recent past in Chennai City Region and some of the P.O.s so closed in Chennai City alone are noted hereunder for your ready remembrance.

To add to the recent row are Pattunool Chatram SO , Kanchipuram Cutchery SO in Kanchipuram Division and now in turn it is Vellore Collectorate PO.
A kind reference is invited to the letters cited. It is once again to note here that the Secretary Posts has entered into a written agreement with the JCA leaders of all the Union Vide No. 08/09/2011-SR dt.06.07.2011 and 16.1.2012, recorded that there would be no closure of Pos & whenever needed it would be relocated simultaneously.
But to our dismay, contrary to that, the the ground level officers are day by day , ordering to close down the Post Offices abruptly without any valid reason. You may aware that these POs are situated in a prime Locality and under the usage of larger public.
The general public, many service organisations and political party leaders have raised these issues with the Postal authorities concerned. Such actions of the Postal authorities were criticised by the print media and the image of our Department is damaged in the eyes of common public. This matter was also put forth before your eyes by our Circle Union, even during the recent Four Monthly meeting. Public representatives of various political parties such as MLAs MPs are giving press statements about the abrupt withdrawal of public services on daily basis. They are criticising the Secretary posts’ agreement before the media.
This completely shatters the image of our Department among masses, and exposes the disorderliness of our low rung officers violating the Secretary Posts’ agreement and written commitment .
The SSPOs Vellore has ordered for merger of Vellore Collectorate Post office with Vellore H.O with effect from 25.02.2012. Vellore Collectorate is situated within the campus of Fort amidst many State Government offices such as Police Recruit School, District Forest Office, District Registrar Office, District Elementary Education Office, Office of the Assistant Conservator of Forest, Indian Overseas Bank, Archeological survey of India and Jalakanteswarar temple.
Hence the merger proposal of SSPOs Vellore is shocking to us as there is no reason for this merger. Hope our Chief PMG would understand the feelings of the common public and the general staff and would definitely honour the commitment made by our Secretary Posts, without brushing aside her written agreement.
We request our CPMG, therefore, kindly to intervene in this matter , and make orders so as to restore the postal services at Vellore Collectorate PO, Pattunool Chatram PO and Kanchipuram Cutchery PO immediately, since the date fixed for closure is 25.02.2012.
